THE SPRINGS HOTEL
PAGOSA SPRINGS, COLORADO
PROJECT ARCHITECT
WITH REYNOLDS & ASSOCIATES
The Springs Hotel in Downtown Pagosa Springs at The Springs Resort and Spa is adjacent to the world-famous hot springs – known as the deepest in the world – and is located along the banks of the San Juan River, offering a unique opportunity to utilize geothermal resources for heating, in addition to their well-known healing purposes.
. . .
This premier lodging for Southwest Colorado was built in 2009. As project architect with R+A Architecture and Engineering, Courtney helped extensively to oversee the hotel’s construction, from the integration of geothermal technology to thoughtful landscaping and LEED driven interior design. The Springs in turn gained global recognition as the first hotel in Colorado to receive LEED Gold certification.
Courtney worked closely with the clients to ensure an appropriate marriage of energy efficiency with classic American style. Sister owners Keely and Nerissa Whittington set the intention for the targeted LEED Gold certification. Together with their father Bill Whittington, they wished to model the hotel after the opulent historic Cliff House in Manitou Springs. This precedent informed The Springs design into a three-story, 79-room hotel featuring a grand atrium as its centerpiece, held by balconied floors. Darker wood throughout the interior brings a winter lodge aesthetic paired with old world glamour for guests and the community to come together and enjoy.
Recently debuting on Travel + Leisure’s “2024 World’s Best” list, The Springs has become the preferred retreat for locals and tourists alike.
